Acer is a multinational corporation that deals in computer technology and electronics withits headquarters based in Taipei,Taiwan.
The company was brought into being in the year 1976 by Stan Shih alongwith his wife Carolyn Yeh and five others.It was later renamed as Acer in 1987.The very first activity that Acer was involved into was the distribution of electronic parts and providing consultation related to use of microprocessor technology. With time,it grew as a manufacturer of Personal Computers.
It was in 1997 that Acer ventured into laptops after acquiring Texas Instruments' mobile PC division.
Acer has spread over the entire world with its subsidaries in N.America,Australia,Europe,Middle East,Africa and India.
Acer has disclosed that it will be marketing it laptops and notebooks with Linux as its operating sysytem aggressively.Though they are alraedy marketing Linux on its low priced laptops but their promotional activities will be taken further.
