RIM, maker of BlackBerry phones reported that they are slashing 2000 jobs out of its global work force. This action has been taken to bid cost-saving effort aimed at trimming $1 billion in working expenditure.Affected employees will be notified soon and after the layoffs, RIM will have 17,000 employees worldwide.RIM made these changes, expecting a better position among worldwide companies for future growth and profits. As said by a waterloo ontario based company RIM is suffering reduction in position because of the program it opted for .RIM - which did not provide specific numbers regarding the cuts in jobs is expected to provide an update regarding it, when it will report its results on June 28.

Last July, RIM laid off about 2,000 employees, marking the biggest employee reduction in its history. Wrong steps taken by RIM have been examined carefully and reached the conclusion that it’s BlackBerry Playbook, the first product based on its QNX software, has received poor reviews and large competition since the launch. But RIM is trying to consolidate its several departments. Along with the workforce reduction, RIM announced unexpected results that mostly involves expanding the officers' roles.

RIM is planning to launch a new operating system, BlackBerry 10, leans heavily on HTML5 for its cross-platform software support, will bring a new screen sharing feature to the BlackBerry smartphones and to test apps on real hardware to work out interface and usability issues, in the end of this year because Americans prefer iPhones and Android phones over BlackBerry, which can become a  threat to BlackBerry’s popularity and is losing out in the profitable consumer market to iOS, Android, and even the promising Windows Phone 7 mobile operating systems.
