Akai to foray into the Indian telecom business, launches 10 handset s in India today

The latest in this category is Akai, the famous Japanese consumer electronics brand. The company is stepping into the telecom business in India by launching ten handsets today only.
As per the sources, this Japanese consumer electronics brand Akai is going to introduce ten brand
new mobile handsets in India. All these new handsets will be having the price tag of about Rs 5,000. Pranay Dhabhai, Akai India managing director was quoted saying that this year, they target to do a turnover of Rs 435 crore (Rs 4.35 billion). In the last six months, they have been working on developing their distribution channels and after sales service.
Akai had earlier commented that it will be investing about Rs 25 crore for the promotional and the advertising campaigns this fiscal. Apart from foraying into the telecom business, Akai is also planning to make an entry into the IT and power (device) vertical in India. This year, the company re-entered India in January through the Global Brands Enterprise Solutions. The company ended its brand licensing agreement with
Videocon in September last year. Presently the product portfolio of Akai includes washing machines, microwave ovens, DVD players, televisions and home theatres.
