Design of Samsung Galaxy R
Being a dual core smartphone puts the Samsung Galaxy R in direct comparison with Galaxy S2. Measuring 125 mm x 66 mm x 9.5 mm and weighing 135 g, Samsung Galaxy R is a bit thicker and heavier than Galaxy S II. On the upside, the back of Samsung Galaxy R features a brushed metal finish which gives the device nice look and feel compared to the all plastic design of Galaxy S II. The front of Samsung Galaxy R is dominated by a 4.2 inch super clear LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 and pixel density of 222ppi. The display is bright with vibrant colors though it misses out on the contrast level provided by the screen on Galaxy S2. Above the screen, there is a 1.3 megapixel front camera, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and an earpiece. Below the screen, we have three buttons - hardware home key, touch-sensitive menu and back buttons on either side of the home key. On the left side of the device there is a volume rocker while on the right side is the power/lock key. All of the hardware buttons that the phone has are well exposed and hard enough to prevent any accidental presses. The top of the device has a 3.5 mm audio jack and a secondary microphone. At the bottom, there’s primary microphone and microUSB port, which also serves as a charging port. The back of the device features a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and loudspeaker grill at bottom right corner.
Overall, though the Samsung Galaxy R is slightly thicker and heavier than Galaxy S II, the build quality feels solid and the brushed metal finish at back gives sophisticated look when holding the device.
