In a fresh, two different incidents have been reported from Taiwan and Japan of iPhone 8 Plus splitting from the sides. Earlier, there was a report of a crackling sound that emitted from the earpiece speakers. However, the issue has been resolved by Apple in the new iOS 11 update.
A report by The Independent claims that a user had complained that an Apple iPhone 8 Plus split open from between while the phone was being charged using the Apple charger and cable that came in the box along with the phone. In the report, the buyer also claimed that he had purchased the device 5 days before the incident occurred.

As per The Independent report, Apple has not come out of explanation yet, but is looking into the matter. Since no other incidents have been reported so far, it is likely that these were isolated incidents.
