HMD Global announced its flagship smartphone, Nokia 8 in India today. The Nokia 8 is the first device by the company to feature Carl Zeiss certified camera sensors, Nokia OZO audio and Bothie. The smartphone will be Amazon exclusive and will come with a price tag of Rs 36,999 and will go on sale from October 14. The company informed that its previous devices, Nokia 5 and 6 are already running the September security patch, while Nokia 3 will get the update soon.

Price and Availability

The Nokia 8 will be made available in four colour variants: Polished BLue, Tempered Blue, Steel colour and Polished Copper. The Polished Copper variant will go on sale a few weeks later. The company also informed that Nokia 8 models that will be sold in India are made in India. The device has been launched with various launch offers including 100GB of additional Jio data in the form of 10GB extra data a month for up to 10 recharges until August 2018. The Nokia 8 consumers will be provided access to the special Nokia Mobile Care Concierge Service in 50 cities.

The Nokia 8 comes with a 5.3-inch ‘always-on’ display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and pixel density of 554ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC. The device offers 4GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64GB.

In terms of optics, Nokia 8 sports a rear dual camera setup on the rear with two 13-megapixel Carl Zeiss optics and dual tone LED flash. The camera comes with an aperture of f/2.0 and features optical image stabilization as well as phase detection autofocus. The camera is capable of recording 2160p and 1080p videos in 30fps.

There is also a 13-megapixel front selfie shooter with an aperture of f/2.0 and phase detection autofocus. The front camera is also capable of recording video in 2160p.

The device measures 151.5 x 73.9 x 7.9 and weighs only 160 grams. There is a dual SIM support in the Nokia 8 with a hybrid slot that can be used to install second SIM card or a microSD card for expanding device’s storage.

The biggest standout feature of the Nokia 8 is the Bothie feature that allows the device to use both front and rear camera simultaneously while taking photos, recording videos and video calling. The device is optimized for one-touch live-streaming via Facebook Live and YouTube Live.

The device comes with first ever OZO audio technology. There is a 3.5mm audio jack that comes with active noise cancellation and a dedicated mic. There is A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS support along with NFC support. All of this is backed by a 3090mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 via Type-C reversible connector.

There is a fingerprint sensor mounted on the front. Other sensors include accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass. There is also an IP54 certification for dust and splash resistant which means you will not be able to submerge the device in water completely but is resistant for splashes that happen accidentally.
