  • Jio to raise the prices of 4G data package
  • In October the price of data was raised for 4G Users
  • Affordable 4G smartphones have increased the demand for 4G service in India

The recent report of OpenSignal, the London based firm has indicated that the users can expect a rise in the pricing of the 4G Jio Plans. The rise in the affordable 4G smartphones has definitely increased the demand for 4G data in India. This is one of the reasons why the speed of 4G in the country has been low with India occupying lowest position among the 77 countries in the latest LTE report. The congestion in the network has resulted in the lowering of downloading speed.

Now, it is expected that Jio may put a full stop on its discounted 4G data. This could be gauged from the company’s step of increasing the price of all types of data packages in October. Eventually, the Jio will end these best offers that are now available by the April of 2018. The renewed tariff will stop the incessant 4G plan war among the telecommunication companies.

Jio

Interestingly, on December 10th, the two telecom giants in India, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have introduced their prepaid special tariff recharges. These plans of 309, 459 and 499 by Reliance Jio are again an intelligent way from the company to lure users with 4G data and unlimited call. Perhaps, it is because of these efforts from Jio in the past as well as in the present, which has made 4G growth evident in India. According to Crisil’s predictions, the data subscriber penetration is going to become 80 percent from 40 percent by 2022.

Andrea Toth from OpenSignal has made it clear that the rise in data pricing from Jio in 2018 “could level the playing field for India’s operators”. Strikingly, in April of this year itself, OpenSignal had complemented Jio service in making the users avail 4G data with “LTE signals 91.6 percent of the time”.
