Xiaomi announced the Red colour variant of the Mi 5X smartphone dubbed as Mi 5X Special Edition in China today. The device comes with a price tag of CNY 1,499 (Rs 14,200). The Mi 5X Special Edition is available for pre-bookings on online and offline stores in China. The shipping of the device will start from November 1. The device is currently available in Gold, Black and Rose Gold colour variant and now the fourth colour variant of the device has been launched with Red back panel and black colour on the front.

The Mi 5X comes in all metal body design with rounded edges. It features a 5.5-inch Full HD curved glass display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and brightness up to 450 nits. The device is powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2GHz coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The device offers 4GB of RAM and supports dual SIM support which is a hybrid one that means that one of both the SIM slots can be used as a microSD slot. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat atop MIUI9.

The Mi 5X sports a dual camera setup on the rear that comes with two 12MP camera sensor. Out of the two, primary camera features a wide angle lens with 1.25 micron pixel and an aperture of f/2.2 while the other is a telephoto lens with 1-micron pixel sensor and an aperture of f/2.6. There is also a 5MP front selfie shooter.

It term of connectivity, the Mi 5X offers 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi (808.11 b/g/n), AGS/GLONASS GPS, USB Type-C and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors include ambient light, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, infrared and proximity sensor.
