As promised, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5A, the successor of the previously launched Redmi 4A. The Unique selling point of this entry-level smartphone is its 8-days of battery backup and the lightweight body. The Redmi 5A houses a matte-metal body which Xiaomi claims to be “lighter than metal” and this reduces the overall weight of the smartphone to merely 137g.

If we look at the specifications, the Redmi 5A comes with a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset coupled with Adreno 308. It comes with a 2GB RAM and an internal storage of 16GB, expandable up to 128GB. The devices run on MIUI 9 Android 7.1, hence proving the rumors to be true. The Redmi 5A comes with a 3,000mAh battery for amazing battery backup.

Now moving on to the camera, the Redmi 5A comes with a 13MP back camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. The front camera has a 5MP lens with f 2.0 aperture for selfies. Other features include Panorama, HDR mode and most importantly it supports HD video recording at 1080p and 720p. The smartphone houses a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 296ppi.

The upgrades are not very huge when compared to the Redmi 4A. We could see only few design changes in the smartphone with curved corners for better grip.

Looking at the connectivity options, the Redmi 5A supports 4G-VoLTE,3G, EDGE|GPRS, Wi-fi, Micro-USB and has dual SIM-card slot.

The Redmi 5A is launched at a price of CNY 599 that will be around Rs 6,000 in China and is available for pre-booking from Monday through the official Xiaomi website.

Even though we could not see much upgrades in the Redmi 5A, we could definitely spot out some downgrades in the model when compared to its previous version.Consider the 3000mAh battery in the Redmi 5A while the Redmi 4A came with a 3120mAh battery. Xiaomi also decided not to include a fingerprint sensor in the smartphone just like the Redmi 4A which could prove to be a major drawback.
