The launch of the next installment of Redmi Note smartphone, the Redmi Note 5A has been confirmed by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. The company revealed that the price, specifications as well as the features of Redmi Note 5A will be announced at an event in China on Monday at 5:00pm IST. Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Bin Lin will unveil the smartphone at the event.

The specifications and designs of Redmi Note 5A were leaked via TENAA listings. The tips further reveal that the Redmi Note 5A is expected in two variants, one with a fingerprint scanner on the rear and the one without it. The TENAA listings also state that both variants may have similar specifications.

According to tips from TENAA so far, the Redmi Note 5A is expected to feature a 5.5-inch HD display and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. It is expected to pack 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD slot. This may be the first Redmi phone to sport the Android 7.1.1 Nougat along with MIUI 9 and support dual-SIM. That said, the dual-SIM slot will most likely be a hybrid tray. As far as the camera is concerned, it is expected to sport a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front selfie shooter. The listings further claim that the Redmi Note 5A will measure 153.3×76.3×7.31mm and weigh roughly 150 grams. The phone is expected to pack a 3000mAh battery which will last throughout the day.

The Redmi Note 5A is expected to be priced at CNY 999(roughly Rs 9,600) and will be out for sale from Monday itself. The previous installments of Redmi Note, Redmi Note 4 came out earlier this year and was a huge success.

The Redmi Note 4 made been one of the best selling smartphones by Xiaomi making a record sale of one million units in record time. In India, Xiaomi had sold 5 million units of Redmi Note 4 so far. It is for us to wait and see what benchmark Redmi Note 5A sets and what price would it be introduced at.
