Xiaomi Rolls Out Mi 6X (Mi A2) Smartphone with Dual Rear Cameras and AI Integration

CEO Lei Jun, who is the alma mater of Wuhan University launched Xiaomi’s most awaited device Mi 6X. It is speculated that this is the same device which will be released in India as the Mi A2 since Mi A1 is out of the stock now in the Indian market. Both the handsets seem to have a similar design with Artificial Integration in the camera. Interestingly, even both the devices are expected to run on the same Oreo-based Android 8.1coupled with pre-installed new Xiao Ai.

Mi 6X (Mi A2) price and availability

Unraveled in three variants, Mi 6X carries a different price tag for different memory configurations.  The entry-model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage carries a price tag of CNY 1,599, which is approximately Rs.16, 900. The second model is of CNY 1,799 price (~Rs. 19,000) with 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory. The top end Mi 6X model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage is priced at CNY 1,999 (around Rs. 21,000). All the variants will go on sale in China from Friday, April 27.

Mi 6X (Mi A2) specifications

Powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor, Mi6X is donning a 5.99-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The handset has a striking resemblance to the Redmi Note 5 Pro with narrow bezels and has a dual-SIM option. Based on Android 8.1 Oreo, the handset runs on MIUI 9.5 software and has Adreno 512 GPU. Mi 6X is also supported by Face Unlock functionality as well as the rear fingerprint sensor.  The handset has a full metallic body with dual speakers on the bottom. It is available in five color variants— Red, Gold, Rose Gold, Blue, and Black with a dimension of 158.7×75.4×7.3 mm and weighs 168 grams.

Mi 6X (Mi A2) camera

The best thing that Mi 6X could flaunt is its 20 MP front Sony IMX376 camera sensor with AL features, such as AI Background Bokeh, AI currency conversion, AI Smart Beauty 4.0, etc. The primary camera of the rear dual camera setup of the device is Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels, and the secondary camera is a 20 MP Sony IMX376 camera sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 1-micron pixel size.

The selfie camera comes with the same aperture, but with fixed focal length, and Soft-LED flash, while the cameras at the back have phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone LED flash. However, both the selfie and the rear cameras have AI Scene Recognition to enhance the colors in the images. Furthermore, the device has an AI-powered translation, which can convert texts from Chinese languages to several other major languages, such as English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Indian.

Backed by a battery capacity of 3010mAh, the handset Mi 6X is also supported for Quick Charge 3.0. In terms of connectivity, the device is not accompanied with a 3.5mm earphone jack, but it has USB Type-C port, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, IR emitter, Miracast and Bluetooth 5.0. The device is also carrying sensors, such as proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and gyroscope.

Only time will tell how much changes are introduced in the Indian version – Mi A2. As of now, the device seems to be promising.
