Coolpad has unveiled its high-end flagship smartphone Coolpad Cool Play 6 in India. The launch event happened in Dubai yesterday. The device was already launched in China in May this year, but, the company said that a new device has been developed specially customised for the Indian market. The phone is available exclusively on Amazon at a price of Rs 14,999 and will start shipping from September 4, 2017.

In terms of specifications, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 hosts a 5.5-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 653 processor and runs on Android 7.1.1 operating system. The device offers 6GB of RAM with an expandable internal storage of 64GB. Cool Play 6 supports dual-SIM hybrid slot, one of which can be used to expand storage using a microSD card.

Coming to the optics, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 sports a dual camera setup at the rear with two 13MP sensors and aperture of f/2.0, dual-tone, dual-LED flash which allows users to capture videos in HD and in 4K. There is an 8MP front sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. The charging port is Type-C one, but does not support fast-charging. The phone also supports 4G VoLTE and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. All of this hardware is backed up by a massive 4,000mAh battery, which the company claims can deliver the performance of a 4500mAh one through optimal software optimisation.

The device was launched by the James Du, CEO, Coolpad Group and Syed Tajuddin, CEO, Coolpad India at the event in Dubai. The company claimed that it has an offline presence in eight states in the country with a reach through 3,000 multi-brand outlets.

As a part of Make-In-India initiative, the phone will be manufactured at Videocon’s Aurangabad plant. The company also claims it is planning to open exclusive service centres in at least five cities in the coming six months. With the introduction of the Coolpad Cool Play 6 at a mouth-watering price, some of the popular phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 may face stiff competition. It would, however, be clearer in the coming months with the sales figures of these phones as well as other in the affordable yet powerful segment smartphones.
