MediaTek Partners With Reliance Jio To Launch Android Oreo (Go Edition) Smartphone

MediaTek and Reliance Jio will soon be introducing an affordable smartphone running on Android Oreo (Go Edition). The information was confirmed at company’s curtain raiser event in New Delhi.

During the event, the chipmaker confirmed that its latest SoCs – MT6739 and MT6580 come with Android Go support. The partnership between the chipmaker and Google was announced last month where MediaTek confirmed that Android Go smartphones powered by MediaTek SoCs will be launched by the end of first quarter of 2018. Speculations are that Reliance Jio Android Go smartphone will be launched during this period itself.

Google launched the Android Go as a lightweight version of its latest Android Oreo OS. The Android Go OS is designed keeping in mind the entry-level smartphones that come with very low RAM. The MediaTek MT6739 showcased at the New Delhi event comes with features including dual camera, face unlocks and dual 4G VoLTE support.

To recall, Nokia 1 is expected to come running on Android Go while Micromax has already proclaimed that its Bharat Go smartphone will run on this new platform out of the box.
