From September 24, Reliance Jio has officially begun with the delivery of over 6 million JioPhone units. This task of delivering is said to be completed in 10-15 days, as informed by a channel partner of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd to PTI. The informant further stated that the delivery of these handsets will begin from rural areas and small towns and later on move to urban centres.

The source, who doesn’t want to be named, told PTI “The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns.”

On sending queries on this to Reliance Jio no response was received. However, the source has clearly stated, “The delivery of the first lot of 6 million will be completed in 10-15 days.” Although he wasn’t aware of the dates on which the next round of booking for JioPhone units will begin.

Reliance Jio started pre-booking of the JioPhones on August 24 against payment of a refundable deposit of Rs 500. The remaining amount of Rs 1,000 is to be paid by the customer once the 4G handset is delivered to them. The entire amount of Rs 1,500 will be refunded to each customer against the return of the phone after three years.

A total of 61.8 million phones were shipped in the second quarter of 2017, according to CyberMedia Research. Reliance Jio is said to be aiming at the sale of 6 million units of JioPhone which is estimated to be around 10 percent of India’s total mobile phone market in a quarter.

For JioPhone customers, Reliance Jio’s Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced that voice calling will always remain free. Furthermore, JioPhone customers will even get unlimited data for a month against a payment of Rs 153. The phone will also come pre-loaded with various Jio apps including the ones for messaging and entertainment. The JioPhone could even be connected to the television sets for watching live TV via the Jio TV app.

The delivery of 6 million JioPhone units has already started from Sunday in rural areas and is aimed at being completed within 15 days.
